Description of the Drift Diver Specialty Course:

The PADI Drift Diver Specialty Course is ideal for certified divers who want to learn how to glide along with the ocean currents in a relaxed and controlled way. Whether you’re exploring reefs, channels, or walls, drift diving is all about letting the current do the work while you focus on the beauty around you. This one-day course teaches you how to stay close to your buddy, communicate effectively, and plan safe and exciting drift dives.

What to Expect:

Theory Session – Begin your day with a comprehensive briefing covering drift diving techniques, safety protocols, equipment use like surface signaling devices and floats, and environmental awareness.
Ocean Dives (2 Drift Dives) – Head out by boat for two drift dives in the stunning currents off Playa del Carmen. Practice neutral buoyancy, controlled descents, buddy positioning, and staying with the group as the current carries you effortlessly over vibrant reefs.

The PADI Drift Diver Specialty Course is 4000 MXN per person, covering all training, ocean training dives, and certification fees. No hidden costs!

Our meeting point is at our office located at Flamingos Street, between 40th Street North and 42nd Street North, on the corner next to the dive center, Zazil-Ha neighborhood, Postal code 77720 Playa del Carmen, Q.R.

Is certification required?

Yes, you must be at least Open Water certified to join the PADI Drift Diver Specialty Course.

What is drift diving?

Drift diving is a type of scuba diving where you use the natural current of the water to move along a dive site, almost like flying underwater. It’s a relaxing, exciting way to cover more ground with minimal effort.

Do I need to complete any theory or exams?

Yes, there’s a bit of independent study to do before the dives. It’s not a full classroom course like the Open Water, but you’ll review some theory—don’t worry, there’s no exam.

What will I learn?

In this course, you’ll learn how to plan and carry out drift dives safely, use surface signaling devices like DSMBs and floats, stay close to your buddy and dive group, and keep good buoyancy control even in changing conditions.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

If canceled or modified up to 24 hours before the trip date, no fee will be charged. If canceled or modified later, or in the event of a no-show, 100% of the prepaid deposit will be charged. No fee applies if the activity is canceled by Xico Dive Center or cannot be rescheduled due to rough sea conditions or medical reasons (if a valid certificate is provided within 24 hours after no-show or cancellation). Under no circumstances, if there is a cancellation and e-learning has been activated, you will not be refunded your deposit for the e-learning.
