Description of the Junior Divemaster Course:

The PADI Junior Divemaster course is a great choice for young divers who want to go beyond just fun diving. During the course, you’ll learn how dive professionals work, practice important diving skills, and assist in real diving courses. This program helps you build leadership and dive knowledge, giving you the experience you need to become a Divemaster once you turn 18.

What to Expect:

  • Learn About Diving – Start with online lessons and review topics like how diving works, safety, and how to plan a dive.
  • In-Water Practice – You’ll practice important dive skills like towing a diver, snorkeling with fins, and stamina tests. You’ll also do a rescue skill and make a map of a dive site.
  • Real Experience – Help instructors set up the dive site, give dive briefings with their help, and learn to act like a dive professional.

The PADI Junior Divemaster course takes a minimum of 2 weeks to complete.

What to Bring?

Where to Meet?
We meet at Xico Dive Center, located on Flamingos Street between 40th Street North and 42nd Street North, in the Zazil-Ha neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.
What are the prerequisites for the course?
The PADI Junior Divemaster course is available for individuals aged 15 to 17 who are certified as Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver, with at least 20 logged dives. Participants must also sign the necessary course forms.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Yes, ages 15–17. When you turn 18, you can complete the full Divemaster program and receive professional certification.
Do I need to complete any theory or exams?
Yes. You’ll complete online learning, eLearning, with knowledge reviews, plus hands-on practical workshops and assessments with our instructors.
What if my child hasn’t done EFR yet?
Rescue Diver certification, which includes recent EFR training, is a prerequisite. If EFR is missing or outdated, we can arrange EFR training for an extra charge. Just let us know when you book.
What kind of skills will my child learn?
Leadership basics, dive briefings with supervision, site setup and mapping, towing a diver, stamina and snorkeling skills, a rescue skill refresh, and professional habits for assisting instructors.
What is the Cancellation Policy?

If the reservation is canceled or modified up to 24 hours before the activity date, no cancellation fee will be charged. If the reservation is canceled or modified less than 24 hours before the activity, or in the event of a no show, 100% of the prepaid deposit will be charged.

No cancellation fee will apply if the activity is canceled by Xico Dive Center due to weather conditions, port closure, or operational reasons, and cannot be rescheduled.

In the case of cancellations due to medical reasons, no cancellation fee will apply only if a valid medical certificate is provided within 24 hours of the scheduled tour time.

For courses that include PADI or other eLearning materials, the deposit is non refundable once the eLearning has been activated or issued. This is because the training materials remain valid and can still be used by the student, whether they continue the course with us at a later date or complete it with another dive center.

If a course or activity must be postponed, we will always do our best to reschedule it according to availability.
