PADI Sidemount Diver in Playa del Carmen

The PADI Sidemount Diver course in Playa del Carmen teaches you to configure, control and dive a sidemount system efficiently instead of simply moving cylinders from your back to your sides. Xico focuses on clean equipment setup, stable trim, propulsion, gas management, valve access and problem solving so the configuration feels predictable before you use it on more demanding dives.

Choose Ocean or Cenotes

Xico offers the same PADI Sidemount Diver certification through two training environments. Choose the Ocean option for current, waves, boat entries and real-world Caribbean conditions, or choose the Cenotes option for exceptional visibility and precision-focused skill development in the Riviera Maya. The course page keeps both choices together so you can compare them without jumping between duplicate course pages.

Four Training Dives Across Two Days

Both Xico options use a two-day format with four training dives. Equipment configuration and confined or protected-water sidemount skills are established before the full open-water training is completed. The extra repetition gives you more time to refine trim, propulsion, cylinder handling, gas switching and shutdown procedures than a minimum-only course structure.

Build a Configuration You Can Actually Use

Good sidemount is personal. Cylinder position, harness adjustment, hose routing, weighting and trim need to work with your body and your equipment. Your instructor helps you build a clean, repeatable setup and then tests it under real diving conditions rather than treating configuration as a one-time classroom exercise.

Recreational PADI Sidemount or Technical Cave Preparation?

This page is the recreational PADI Sidemount Diver route. If your main goal is technical sidemount, decompression or preparation for Full Cave training, tell Xico before booking. Technical sidemount and Full Cave preparation are kept as a separate TDI pathway so the course, equipment and performance goals match what you actually want to do next.

    Good to Know

    Questions before you book?

What are the prerequisites for the PADI Sidemount course?

You must be at least 15 and hold PADI Open Water Diver or a qualifying equivalent certification. Xico also checks your recent diving, basic buoyancy control and required medical screening before confirming the Ocean or Cenotes training option.

Should I choose the Ocean or Cenotes PADI Sidemount course?

Choose Ocean for real-world current, waves and boat-diving conditions, or Cenotes for exceptional visibility and precision-focused skill work. Xico runs both options as two-day programs with four training dives and the same PADI Sidemount Diver certification.

Is sidemount equipment included in the PADI Sidemount course price?

The Ocean and Cenotes base course prices do not include the specialized sidemount rental set. Xico offers a full-course sidemount gear rental option separately. The current rental amount is shown on the Sidemount course page when you choose your training option.

Will Xico run my course if I am the only student?

Yes. Xico can run its courses with one booked student, so you do not have to wait for us to fill a group. Your requested start date still needs instructor and operational confirmation.

Can I choose my course start date?

Send us your preferred start date. Xico will check the appropriate instructor, training schedule and any required training logistics before confirming the course. Start dates are flexible, but a website request is not an instant booking confirmation.

Do I need medical clearance for scuba training?

Scuba students complete the required diver medical screening. Depending on your answers, physician approval may be required before in-water training. Any external physician or consultation cost is separate unless a course page explicitly says otherwise.

Is PADI Sidemount the same as TDI Sidemount / Full Cave Prep?

No. This page is for the recreational PADI Sidemount Diver certification. Xico keeps technical sidemount and Full Cave preparation as a separate TDI pathway for divers whose goal is technical or overhead-environment progression. Tell us your long-term diving goal before booking so we can point you to the correct route.
