Description of the TDI Cavern Diver Course:
The TDI Cavern Diver course is your gateway into overhead-environment diving—done correctly, safely, and within strict limits.
You’ll train in the cenotes’ cavern zone (the area with natural light), learn to run and follow a guideline, manage gas precisely,
communicate with lights and hand signals, maintain solid buoyancy/trim, and handle realistic problem-solving scenarios.
This course is not a cave-diving certification. You will stay within the cavern “daylight zone,” follow a continuous guideline,
and learn the protocols that keep cavern diving controlled and safe.
Availability:
On request. We schedule the course around your travel dates and cenote conditions. Contact us to lock in your training days.
What to Expect:
-
Academics + Land Drills: Cavern diving policy, gas matching/management, psychological considerations, equipment configuration,
communication (light/hand/touch), anti-silting propulsion techniques, emergency procedures, and conservation. -
Cavern Dives (4 training dives): Conducted across 2 different cenote sites. You’ll practice:
guideline deployment and following, controlled exits, light/communication protocols, buoyancy/trim, propulsion, and scenario-based problem solving. -
Required Skills (examples): Guideline work; line-following with simulated loss of visibility; air sharing while following the line;
mask removal/replacement while maintaining line contact; simulated primary light failure and exiting on backup light; anti-silting techniques.
Training Limits (Course Philosophy):
- Daylight zone only (within natural light of the cavern entrance)
- Gas rules: 1/3 of a single cylinder (or 1/6 if using doubles)
- Maximum penetration distance: 61 meters / 200 feet from the surface
- Maximum depth: up to 40 meters / 130 feet (no decompression; deeper than 18m/60ft requires proof of deep experience)
