Training schedule: Three-day technical course with academics/drills followed by four cavern dives across two cenote sites. Exact cenotes are selected for training objectives and conditions.

Open-water logistics: No ocean boat is required; Xico arranges ground logistics to the selected cenote training sites.

Schedule note: Start dates are available subject to instructor availability, student readiness and operational confirmation.

Certification requirements: Training is conducted and evaluated by an appropriately qualified instructor for the agency and course. Certification or recognition is issued only after the applicable course requirements are successfully completed.

TDI Cavern Diver Course in the Riviera Maya Cenotes

The TDI Cavern Diver course from Playa del Carmen is Xico’s entry point to formal overhead-environment training. It teaches the discipline, guideline work, propulsion and emergency procedures needed inside the daylight zone of a cavern.

Three Days of Academics, Drills and Four Cavern Dives

The current Xico program uses three days so equipment configuration, gas planning, land drills and four cavern training dives can be developed progressively instead of compressed into a quick cenote tour. The dives take place at two different sites.

Learn the Limits That Keep Cavern Diving Recreational

Cavern is not unrestricted cave diving. Training stays within natural daylight, uses a continuous guideline, follows conservative gas rules and avoids decompression and restrictions. Those limits are part of the skill, not obstacles to it.

A Foundation for Future Cave Training

The course builds precise buoyancy, trim, anti-silting propulsion, line awareness, light communication and team procedures. Divers who later want Intro to Cave or Full Cave training start from these disciplined fundamentals rather than learning them after penetration has already increased.

Questions before you book?

Is TDI Cavern Diver the same as cave diving?

No. Cavern training remains in the daylight zone with a continuous guideline, no decompression and no restrictions. It is an overhead-environment foundation course and does not grant unrestricted cave-diving privileges.

What are the prerequisites for the TDI Cavern Diver course?

Minimum age is 18, or 15 with the required parental consent. You need Open Water Diver or equivalent and at least 25 logged dives. If planned training goes deeper than 18 m / 60 ft, Xico also requires proof of suitable deep training/experience.

Do I need technical equipment for the Cavern course?

Cavern training requires redundant lights, line/reel tools and an appropriate configuration. Xico provides course-use torches, guideline/reels/markers, tanks and weights as described; full personal scuba-gear rental is separate if you need it.

Will Xico run my course if I am the only student?

Yes. Xico can run its courses with one booked student, so you do not have to wait for us to fill a group. Your requested start date still needs instructor and operational confirmation.

Do I need medical clearance for scuba training?

Scuba students complete the required diver medical screening. Depending on your answers, physician approval may be required before in-water training. Any external physician or consultation cost is separate unless a course page explicitly says otherwise.

Can I choose my course start date?

Send us your preferred start date. Xico will check the appropriate instructor, training schedule and any required training logistics before confirming the course. Start dates are flexible, but a website request is not an instant booking confirmation.
