Description of the Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Course:
The PADI Coral Reef Conservation Specialty is a one-day, non-diving course. You don’t need to be a diver to take part, this course is perfect for ocean lovers of all kinds. You’ll learn why coral reefs are so important, how they support marine life, and what’s putting them at risk. Through a fun and interactive classroom session, we’ll explore real-world threats like coral bleaching, pollution, and destructive fishing, as well as what you can do to help.

What to Expect:
- Theory Session – Start with an exciting classroom session at our dive center. You’ll learn basic facts about coral biology, how reefs grow, the role they play in marine ecosystems, and how human activity affects them.
- Reef Protection Planning – Work closely with your instructor to identify steps you can take to protect reefs – from safe diving/snorkeling practices to joining conservation efforts.
- Debrief & Certification – After your session, your instructor will review everything you’ve learned and award you the PADI Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Certification. You’ll leave with a better understanding of reef ecosystems and your role in their protection.

The price of the Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Course is 2000 MXN (≈$114 USD) per person, including all course materials, classroom session, PADI certification fees, and taxes. No hidden costs!

Where to Meet?
We meet at Xico Dive Center, located on Flamingos Street between 40th Street North and 42nd Street North, in the Zazil-Ha neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.
Is certification required?
Nope. There are no prerequisites for this course.
Is this a diving course?
No dives are required. This is a land-based specialty, perfect for non-diving days or those who want to deepen their knowledge of marine conservation.
Do I need to complete any theory or exams?
There’s no test! This course is all about learning and discussion, and it’s taught in-person by one of our knowledgeable and passionate instructors. No eLearning required.
What will I learn during the course?
You’ll learn how reefs form and work, the role they play in supporting marine life, the threats they face, like bleaching and pollution, and how you can help protect them locally and globally.
What is the Cancellation Policy?
If the reservation is canceled or modified up to 24 hours before the activity date, no cancellation fee will be charged. If the reservation is canceled or modified less than 24 hours before the activity, or in the event of a no show, 100% of the prepaid deposit will be charged.
No cancellation fee will apply if the activity is canceled by Xico Dive Center due to weather conditions, port closure, or operational reasons, and cannot be rescheduled.
In the case of cancellations due to medical reasons, no cancellation fee will apply only if a valid medical certificate is provided within 24 hours of the scheduled tour time.
For courses that include PADI or other eLearning materials, the deposit is non refundable once the eLearning has been activated or issued. This is because the training materials remain valid and can still be used by the student, whether they continue the course with us at a later date or complete it with another dive center.
If a course or activity must be postponed, we will always do our best to reschedule it according to availability.
