Training schedule: Three-day plan with five PADI Adventure Dives plus one additional guided fun dive in the normal daytime Xico format. If Night is selected as a suitable Adventure Dive, the schedule normally contains five total dives. Exact order depends on age, selected electives, conditions and instructor planning.

Open-water logistics: Training dives operate by local dive boat on Playa del Carmen reefs and suitable training sites.

Schedule note: Start dates are available subject to instructor availability, student readiness and operational confirmation.

Certification requirements: Training is conducted and evaluated by an appropriately qualified instructor for the agency and course. Certification or recognition is issued only after the applicable course requirements are successfully completed.

Junior Advanced Open Water in Playa del Carmen

The PADI Junior Advanced Open Water course helps young certified divers build experience through five PADI Adventure Dives. It is designed for ages 12-14 who already hold Junior Open Water or an equivalent rating.

Five PADI Adventure Dives Plus Xico's Extra Fun Dive

Underwater Navigation and a Deep Adventure Dive form the core of the program, with three additional age-appropriate electives selected with the instructor. In Xico's normal daytime format we add one extra guided fun dive, so most students complete six total ocean dives. If Night is selected and is appropriate for the student and schedule, the course normally runs as five total dives.

Choose Age-Appropriate Adventure Dives

Electives are selected around the student's interests, age limits, conditions and instructor planning. Suitable choices can include buoyancy, drift, naturalist, DPV / Scooter or Night when the applicable junior standards and operating conditions allow it.

Build Confidence Without Rushing

Xico uses three days so a young diver has time to learn, recover and discuss each dive rather than treating the program as a race to certification.

What Comes Next

Junior Advanced is the prerequisite foundation for Junior Rescue training and builds useful experience for future recreational diving while the student continues to follow the applicable junior depth and supervision limits.

What certification does my child need for Junior Advanced Open Water?

A Junior Open Water certification or equivalent is required. Minimum age is 12. Divers aged 12-14 receive the Junior Advanced Open Water rating and must continue to follow the age-specific PADI depth and supervision limits.

Which Adventure Dives are included in Junior Advanced Open Water?

Underwater Navigation and a Deep Adventure Dive are the two core dives. Three additional age-appropriate Adventure Dives are selected with the instructor based on the student’s interests, junior standards, conditions and schedule. Xico normally adds one extra guided fun dive for six total dives; if Night is selected and suitable, the course normally runs as five total dives.

How deep can a Junior Advanced Open Water Diver go?

For divers aged 12-14, the applicable PADI junior depth limit is up to 21 m / 70 ft within training, certification and local-condition limits. The instructor plans each dive conservatively for the student’s experience and comfort.

Will Xico run my course if I am the only student?

Yes. Xico can run its courses with one booked student, so you do not have to wait for us to fill a group. Your requested start date still needs instructor and operational confirmation.

What paperwork is required for students under 18?

A parent or legal guardian must complete the required participation and medical paperwork for a minor. Age-specific PADI limits and supervision rules continue to apply after certification where relevant.

What happens if weather or a port closure affects course dives?

If weather, sea conditions or a port closure prevent required ocean training, Xico will first try to reschedule the affected training according to safe conditions and availability. Certification is issued only after the required performance requirements are completed.
