PADI DPV Scooter Course in Playa del Carmen

The PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle specialty course adds speed and range to a normal reef dive while teaching you to manage the extra equipment responsibly. In one day you move from scooter theory to two real ocean training dives.

Cover More Reef With Less Effort

A DPV can let you explore a much larger area, but good control matters. You will practice stable riding position, turns, starts and stops, buddy separation control and environmental awareness so the scooter supports the dive rather than dominating it.

Two Ocean Dives With Real DPVs

Xico includes the underwater scooters for both training dives. The Playa del Carmen reefs give you space to practice control, navigation and team procedures while still having a genuinely fun specialty-course day.

Use the Skill After Certification

After certification you can book Xico’s dedicated DPV Scooter Diving experience or use the qualification where operators and conditions permit. Strong buoyancy remains one of the best skills to pair with DPV diving.

Came to Mexico purely to dive and choosing Xico was the best decision. Did AOW, Nitrox and DPV with Santi, and cenote dives with Manu, also spent time diving with all the other instructors here during my stay. (Too many to mention!)
I was quite anxious at times, but every single one of them was incredibly calm, patient and reassuring, helping me build confidence step by step. Their approach is perfect… safety and training always come first, and once that’s right, then it was time to have fun!
Professional, safe, friendly and totally reliable. don’t go anywhere else!!

    Good to Know

    Questions before you book?

What certification do I need for the PADI DPV course?

You need an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent and must meet the applicable minimum age and medical requirements. Xico may recommend a buoyancy tune-up first if scooter control would otherwise be difficult.

What will I learn with an underwater scooter?

You learn DPV handling, safe starts and stops, turning, buddy procedures, positioning, battery and equipment considerations, dive planning and how to avoid harming the reef while covering more distance underwater.

Is the underwater scooter included in the course price?

Yes. DPV use during the two training dives is included together with the standard rental scuba gear needed for the course, unless you arrange a different personal-equipment setup with Xico.

Will Xico run my course if I am the only student?

Yes. Xico can run its courses with one booked student, so you do not have to wait for us to fill a group. Your requested start date still needs instructor and operational confirmation.

Can I choose my course start date?

Send us your preferred start date. Xico will check the appropriate instructor, training schedule and any required training logistics before confirming the course. Start dates are flexible, but a website request is not an instant booking confirmation.

What happens if weather or a port closure affects course dives?

If weather, sea conditions or a port closure prevent required ocean training, Xico will first try to reschedule the affected training according to safe conditions and availability. Certification is issued only after the required performance requirements are completed.
