The Cenote Car Wash, located approximately an hour’s drive from Xico Dive Center, is a notable dive site known for its natural beauty, unique features, and cultural significance. Despite its historical use as a local car wash, where people would bring their vehicles to be cleaned using the cenote’s freshwater, it has transformed into a captivating oasis for divers. Surrounded by lush vegetation and featuring crystal-clear waters, Cenote Car Wash offers a picturesque and inviting environment for divers. Unlike some of the deeper and more challenging cenotes, Car Wash is relatively shallow, with a maximum depth of approximately 50 ft/15m. This makes it accessible to a wide range of divers, including beginners. The cenote holds cultural importance for the local Maya community, serving as a place where ancient rituals and purification ceremonies were performed. Its clear waters allow abundant natural light to illuminate the surroundings, creating mesmerizing beams of sunlight that dance through the water. While Cenote Car Wash may not boast the dramatic geological features of some other cenotes, its tranquil setting and cultural significance make it a must-visit destination for those seeking an extraordinary diving adventure. Divers can enjoy observing various species of fish and other aquatic creatures in their natural habitat while exploring the depths of the cenote. With its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and accessibility, Cenote Car Wash offers a truly enchanting experience for divers of all levels.
