Questions that help you choose the right dive
Compare local reefs and Cozumel, understand cenote and shark diving, and check the experience required for night and DPV options.
Should I choose Cozumel or local Playa reef diving?
Choose Cozumel for larger reef formations, clear water, walls, swim-throughs, and drift diving. Choose local Playa reef diving for shorter boat rides, more schedule flexibility, a lower price, or an easier first dive in the area. Multi-day packages combine both.
Is this cave diving?
No. Xico recreational cenote trips are guided cavern dives in the natural-light zone, following a permanent guideline back to the entrance. Full cave diving continues beyond the cavern zone and requires formal technical cave training and specialized equipment.
Can I dive a cenote if I have not dived recently?
Tell us your last dive date and comfort level. Cenotes are calm and clear, but they are overhead cavern environments where buoyancy, trim, awareness, and following the guideline matter. A refresher or local reef check dive may be recommended first.
Should I choose the Feeding Dive or the Observation Dive?
Choose Feeding for the closest, most intense, one-tank shark-focused experience. Choose Observation for a non-feeding encounter and a complete two-tank trip with a local reef dive. Both require certification, recent comfort at depth, and serious compliance with the briefing.
Are bull shark sightings guaranteed?
No. Bull sharks are wild animals and sightings can never be guaranteed. During the season the chances can be good, but shark movement, weather, visibility, current, port status and local conditions can affect every dive. We give honest information based on recent activity before confirming the trip.
Is this suitable for my first night dive?
Yes, for a certified diver who is comfortable in the water and has reasonably recent experience. The guide gives a night-diving briefing covering lights, communication, buddy awareness, navigation, and lost-light procedures. If you are rusty or anxious, we may recommend a daytime local dive first.
Do I need a DPV certification for the scooter dives?
Yes. This trip is designed for divers with a DPV or underwater-scooter specialty certification, or equivalent documented training accepted by Xico. A normal Open Water certification alone does not cover the planning and control skills used on this activity.
