Requirements for the PADI Rescue Diver Course:
To enroll in this course divers must be at least 15 years of age, have their Open Water Diver certification and Advanced Open Water certification. To obtain this certification it is also necessary to have CPR and first aid training that you have received within 24 months. Participants lacking this training can enroll in an Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) course.
PADI Rescue Diver Course Structure:
The Rescue Diver course typically takes 3 days to receive, plus an additional day if you are also looking to inquire about your EFR. However we do offer an intense 5 day rescue course as well as an additional 3 day EFR course. If you are interested in participating in the intense courses contact us for more information. The typical course starts with students receiving the PADI Rescue Diver manual. The manual will provide students with the knowledge and skills of preventing and responding to emergency situations. Students will start with theoretical fundamentals that are essential for your safety and understanding of rescue diving. Students will learn about behaviour, psychology, and accident prevention both on the surface and underwater. Students will learn how to manage an emergency plan, establish a first aid team, and safety procedures. Afterwards students will participate in a pool session. Here students will develop self-rescue skills and rescues of other divers. Students will practice diving skills in a controlled environment, ensuring that you feel comfortable and safe. Next students will participate in open water dives, the most exciting part of the course. We will conduct several open water dives where we will simulate accidents or erratic behaviours and you will be able to apply what you have learned in real diving environments, discovering your ability to solve these situations and perfecting your diving skills. Finally students will have a final exam. This will include both an exam on their performance in simulated emergencies and a final written exam. The rescue course is a very intense course which teaches students much important and needed knowledge when emergencies while diving arise. Students learn to recognize and respond to emergency situations, making a difference in the safety of other divers. It is also a prerequisite for becoming a PADI Divemaster or Diving Instructor. This course students will learn and gain knowledge such as:
- Recognition and response to underwater emergency situations.
- Search and recovery of missing divers.
- Stress management and assistance to panicked divers.
- Emergency oxygen administration.
- Teamwork and effective communication in the water.
Upon completing the course, students will receive an email with their PADI Rescue Diver certification acknowledging their completion of the course.
