Description of the DSMB Specialty Course:

The PADI DSMB Specialty is a one-day course for certified divers who want to improve their safety and signaling skills underwater. This specialty teaches you how to carry, deploy, and use a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy in a variety of situations. Perfect for drift dives, boat dives, and busy marine traffic areas. You’ll learn different deployment techniques, how to avoid entanglement, and how to handle reel systems with confidence.

What to Expect:

• Theory Session – Start with a briefing at our dive center, where you’ll learn about different types of DSMBs, reels, and spools, as well as proper preparation and deployment techniques. We’ll go over common mistakes and how to avoid them.
• 2 Ocean Dives – Head out for two training dives in open water where you’ll practice deploying a DSMB from a stationary hover, during ascent, and from depth. You’ll also learn how to signal surface support, manage entanglement, and handle reel tension while staying neutrally buoyant.
• Debrief & Certification – After the dives, we’ll debrief and go over your performance. You’ll receive helpful feedback, and once completed, you’ll earn the PADI Delayed Surface Marker Buoy Specialty certification.
