The Mama Viña wreck is one of the most popular wreck dive sites in Playa del Carmen. Originally a shrimp boat, it was intentionally sunk in the 1990s to create an artificial reef. It now rests at around 27 meters and is fully encrusted with coral, sponges, and marine life. Divers frequently encounter schools of snapper, barracuda, jacks, and even the occasional sea turtle cruising by.
